Rail

Due to the increasing demand placed on railway infrastructure and a determined effort to reduce carbon emissions, major sections of the rail need to be electrified.

Substations provide protection to the circuits and the overhead lines that connect to the train. Integrated into a substation are the switchgear and the command and control system enabling the safe management and operation of the equipment.

EPS was the pioneering member behind Switchgear Substation Alliance (SSA), a Joint Venture business with Amco-Giffen and Electren, to deliver modular 25kv Containerised Air Insulated Switchgear (CAIS) for railway electrification projects in the UK.

EPS was responsible for the design, assembly and integration of the switchgear at the plant in Nottingham.
